Top 3 Herbs for Anxiety

Anxiety can hold us back from our true potential and limit the amazing gifts we are born to share with others. Herbal medicine is one of the most effective ways to bring peace and balance back to the nervous system to relieve anxiety and get you back to your usual amazing self 🌟 There are many herbs that can be useful for anxiety, I have listed just 3 of my favourites that have worked for me personally and for many of my patients.

My top 3 herbs for anxiety are:

  1. Passionflower: this beautiful flower relaxes tense muscles, slows a racing mind and calms a fast heartbeat. It has a calming action on the central nervous system which helps to lower blood pressure and reduce tense muscles associated with stress and anxiety. Passionflower can also be used to help you fall asleep and stay asleep without the morning grogginess associated with sleep medication or melatonin. Enjoy passionflower as a soothing tea or tincture.

  2. Lavender: this aromatic herb relieves tension headaches, calms the nervous system and helps entrance you into a blissful sleep. Lavender is also considered a nervous system tonic, which means that it strengthens the nervous system and makes you more resilient to stress. Enjoy lavender as an essential oil rub for headaches and muscle aches, or as a tea or tincture to help ease the nervous system.

  3. Lemon Balm: this lemony delight calms a nervous stomach, eases restlessness and is also anti-viral! This herb is exceptional for any stress or anxiety affecting digestion. Yes, I’m talking about needing to run to the toilet just before a major presentation. Due to it’s anti-viral action, lemon balm can also be used to prevent and treat herpes infections. Enjoy lemon balm as a soothing tea or tincture or as a poultice or oil on the skin for herpes outbreaks. Use caution with this herb if you have hypothyroidism.
